To the Jovial Lookout with the BFG

As soon as I left the house I realised I had put on the wrong base layer (that’s a vest to the older generation). I just had a lightweight one on but as it was only 4 degrees a thicker one would have been in order. I quietly shivered most of the day. Destination today […]

Manchester Regional Track League 3rd ...

After last night’s Weaver Valley track night my legs were decidedly heavy and I went in to my first track league of the season with some trepidation particularly so as this was round 7 and so many other riders would have been warmed up through the previous rounds. I was however buoyed by the fact […]

Long Ride to Loggerheads. Or not.

As years have gone by it has become more and more apparent that as I get older, if I leave the bike alone for any period of time my fitness evaporates like it was never there in the first place. So it was on Sunday. I did quite well in the National RR Championships 9 […]

When Alan Met the Birthday Girl

Yesterday’s ramble to Plassey was a curious affair, as we seemed to be going downhill for the larger part of the day. At the club several people were perhaps put off by the sighting of the rare and mythical Duffy. No need to fear people as the creature is (mostly) tame. Anyway Jim, Matt, Paul H, Alan, Steve, […]

Short report on the short long run to...

It was 12 degrees when i left the house on Sunday morning. And spitting. It was that wet rain, the sort of rain that gets you wet. It stayed wet till lunch. Game for a laugh were Steve, Stuart, Alan, Geoff and me. We took the direct route out to Press, direct and flat. The […]

Seamons CC RR 27 June

Last night Tony Booth and myself rode the old man’s Seamons CC Road Race at Siddington, Matt Ellis was in the Junior event. 3 laps of the Congleton circuit in changeable weather. I started reasonably, had a couple of digs towards the end of the first lap, both of which were brought back. Tony went […]

Five Father’s Day Freaks

Father’s Day yesterday and we were the Fathers, King’s of the road. Who’s the Daddy? Who’s the Daddy? We were. At least that’s how we set off. By the time we returned home though the road had chewed us up and spat us out and we were vanquished like Arnold Schwarzenegger after his first day at […]

Gone fishin’

A chilly but bright Sunday morning promised much and the day certainly delivered. At the rugby club, bright eyed and bushy tailed were, Paul, Mark, Jules, another Paul, Colin, Geoff, Matt, one more Paul, Me and Dylan. Dylan was resplendent in a shiny new club jersey but he was a half an hour early as he was […]

Sunny Potter to Loggerheads

Beautiful spring sunshine and very little breeze; ideal ingredients for a deluge of long-run takers. Flooded with people, masses were expected. Well in fact Paul, Paul, Tigger, Stu, Craig and Me were the sole volunteers. A cheap version of the firemen in Trumpton but with worse hats. All raring to go we were though, up […]

Sunday Run to Holt

Either the new long run start time has not got through to everyone or people were put off by what the might weather might have been doing as it was supposed to be fiercely wet and windy today. As it was we were a very compact group at the rugby club this morning. Never mind […]

Sunny Sunday meander with a few lumps

I approached today’s club run with more than a little trepidation; aside from the Llanberis weekend, the last month has been pretty barren with regard to miles, in fact I have not touched my bike for the last 3 weeks. Anyway, whether I ended up a complete wreck by the end, a gorgeous early April day […]

Flash

During last Sunday’s epic, only for the brave and strong ride, I became aware that my wheels were in need of attention. The relentless freezing rain had got in to the hubs and washed away the lubrication, replacing it with a screaming mouse sound effect so I was aware that work was needed in the form […]

As a club, we’d like to wish Andrew Simpson @simmo_on_sport all the best for the future, with a heartfelt thanks for supporting WVCC all these years....
