Matt and I rode the 2,3,4 Return to Racing BC event today at Pimbo, 16 laps of a fairly flat circuit around an industrial estate totalling about 35 miles. There was a full field of 60, the majority of which were young enough to be my children. The circuit is a real power course. The weather threatened rain but thankfully it held off till after we finished although the headwind howling down the back straight was less than pleasant. The race started really quickly, the first lap running off at nearly 30 mph. I got on the wrong side of a split on the second lap and had to really fight to close the gap at 40 mph. The first few laps we were both putting out huge power just to stay in the wheels but after around 4 laps things settled down to the usual surge and compress of road racing. As well as both of us following other attacks and closing gaps, Matt had a good strong go off the front and I made a soft attack, both of these came to nought though as did every other attack and eventually the race finished in a bunch sprint. I think we both finished in the top 25, Matt about 5 places ahead of me. Ultimately a decent day. Not the result either of us particularly wanted although we both tried and worked hard and by the end definitely knew we had been in a race.Looking forward to the next one…
