Kevin approaches a boggy bit back in the “summer”.
All abilities welcome – meet at the station cafe at 10am as usual – we’ll ride over to Primrose Wood via the new obelisk at the top of Old Pale.
If you haven’t ridden with us before, just turn up, you are most welcome. We regroup frequently and won’t leave you lost in the woods. Delamere is the best place to come along and find out what we do. We shall end up back at the cafe in time for lunch, followed by some more trails for those who fancy it.
Don’t forget that bike hire is available from http://www.tracs-uk.co.uk/
Excellent turnout of 13 riders on a lovely bright morning. Over Old Pale then Primrose Wood, along the challenging singletrack which is less overgrown now. Down the Sandstone Trail from Summertrees then up the Tirley Garth bridleway for more singletrack in Primrose Wood.
There were quite a few tired legs by the time we hit Old Pale for the second time before the rapid descent to the cafe and bacon batches/cheesecake all round.
Ross, Richard C and I went off to do a bit more, which was going really well as Ross led us at top speed until my rear mech wrapped itself round my cassette, necessitating a quick trackside conversion to singlespeed for the ride home, just about arriving as the rain started to fall.
Great to see so many out – don't forget Llandegla on 21st.
It was a good ride. First your camera, and then your rear mech Nick, that sounds like an expensive weekend. Cheers Nick, see you at Llandegla.
Fixed the phone/camera and sorted the rear mech which was saved by the hanger bending. Easy to bend it back too as it's not alloy. Those clever Inbred On-One people make them out of mild steel, which is fantastic for ductility, but about as heavy as the average modern alloy frame!
We did the NW cyclo cross league event at Ambleside – lots of rear mechs broken there too, although not ours luckily – we probably weren't trying hard enough. It was a war of attrition, more pushing and carrying than riding – we should have come out with you lot instead! Rob Jebb rode and won but he had a pit crew with a generator and power washer! Anyway we were cheered up on the way back with a cup of tea and a cake at Wilfs at Staveley, and there by the loos was a big poster of Ross promoting the Lee Quarry races!
I dont believe it, every poster that they put up is by a shit house!!! It almost could give one a complex
For those who don't know, the posters with Ross at the last Lee Quarry race were on the portaloos…must be something to do with that joke you told Richard and me on Saturday Ross! It was about spending an extra £500 on a 1kg lighter bike, or alternatively saving the weight with a visit to the afore mentioned.
Glad you're enjoying the cyclo cross El, certainly riding against top competition – and I thought your mechanic had a portable power washer too!
Perhaps Kevin could do a cost/benefit analysis spreadsheet showing us the relative merits of spending over the odds on a lightweight MTB vs. just having a big poo before you ride out.
Hey come on guys, I know its the Bogblog but dont take it so literally!
This is indeed the type of detailed analysis that needs to be carried out if British cycling is to maintain its world class status. The next time I see Mr Brailsford at the track I'll ask him if there is any funding available…
