There’ll be a few that are riding Llanberis for the first time this year, so here are a few details to let you know what is going on.
Luggage
We’re only going for one night,so you don’t need to bring everything and the kitchen sink(!) There will be a van in which you can place your bags, and all of your gear will magically turn up at the hotel in Llanberis ready for your arrival. Have spare clothes to wear for the evening, and it’s best to have clean dry cycling clothes for Sunday.
Supplies
See it as a long club run and come prepared. So, a drink, your usual snacks, spare inners etc. Common sense. There will be support, but don’t rely on a neutral Mavic service car or full professional team to change your wheel to get back into the game in seconds!
Day 1
We intend to start the day at 08:00, so meet at Weaver Valley Cycling Club – Burrows Hill, Hartford CW8 3AA – as we usually do for club runs (for those who have ridden Llanberis before this is a different location than in previous years and is at our new home that we share with Winnington Park RFC), well before then. This gives everyone a chance to get organised, and get into the appropriate groups (there are over 60 people riding, so the groups will be split to keep things safe out on the road) Ideally, if you get there around 07:30 on Saturday, it gives us time to be organised,
We’ll then get sent off into the wilds towards Ruthin, where we will stop for food at the Craft Centre in Ruthin – (Ruthin Craft Centre, Park Road, Ruthin, Denbighshire, LL15 1BB T: 01824 704774).
From here, we’ll head out through Denbigh, and out over the moors towards Betwys-y-Coed, then up the Capel Curig. Here, you’ll get another chance to get a brew if you need one, at the Pinnacle Cafe.
Then it’s the last push onto Llanberis, over Pen-y-Pass, and onto the welscome comfort of the Victoria Hotel (The Royal Victoria Hotel Snowdonia Llanberis Gwynedd Wales LL55 4TY Phone: 01286 870 253).
Day 2
We head back, but off the A5, head through the forest, back to Ruthin Craft Centre for our Sunday lunch top-up, before the last leg home.
There will be a couple of vans out with us, so should you have a mechanical issue, help is on hand! During both outward and return journey, it’s advisable to stay with a group, as it’s awfully lonely on your own over Denbigh Moors(!), and you get to join in with the banter and encouragement of the other club members!
