And as the season draws to a close, the final event of the Guardian Cup took place on Wednesday night. Quite a large field assembled for the 10 mile “dash”. A number of new riders were attracted to take part, as well as those keen to do well and in with a chance of winning. There was Dennis and Alison competing on their Tandem Trike as well as Gareth on his knobbly tyres. Never one to miss an opportunity, Craig was there with a car boot crammed full of club clothing. It was the “new” riders who came under pressure first on the start line . Do short sleeve skin suits really give you 2 mins over 10 miles??
And when all the riding was done and heart rates back to normal it was everyone back to the Crown for a pint and to hear the final “scores on the doors” It had been a memorable year, declared the Results Master. A year in which over 40 different riders had crossed the start line. Some never made it round the distance. We hope Martins recovery is going well, and some missed the second turn and ended up doing a “25” instead. Some would have liked to have rideen more but were victims of accidents that have cut their seasons short. Our commiserations go out to Andy Poole and Rich Munro, lets hope they have better luck next year. Ah yes, ther’s always next year……..
Winner on the night was Dave Fearon, who declared he had ridden what turned out to be one of his best times on an 82″ fixed gear!!! It was a closely run competition, but it was Chris Cain just edged it and he was declared the Guardian Cup winner for 2009
A big thank you, and a bottle of red went to Ann Gregory, who counted us all out, and counted us back again for al her hard work and meticulous time keeping. Finally lets not forget the results master himself, Steve Thomas, for all his efforts on the laptop and making sure our points were totalled up, and numbers collected at the ned of the races!
Well done Chris and thanks to Steve, Graham and Ann for running the events. Anyone who has withdrawal symtoms, come to the velodrome or Llandegla off-road next Wednesday evening.
I would echo Nick's comments entirely so congratulations Chris and thanks again to Ann, Graham and Steve for all their work during the season.
I hope to be back next year.
Here here, thanks to Steves number crunching, and Graham and Ann's time keeping. Maybe a bigger bribe would've seen me maintain my early championship lead until the end – oh well.
Sorry to hear about your accident too Richard. Almost as if bruising your ribs the first time wasn't enough – hardcore! Get well soon.
Thanks Gareth.
I made a proper job of it this time, so I can't ride through the pain of this one!
So Gareth, you did a 27 on a single speed mountain bike…..
Tri Bars = 1min
Weight gain = 1min
Knobbly tyres = 1.5min
26in Wheels = 1min
No gears = 0 (DF rides single all the time, sorry)
I reckon your adjusted time should have been 22.5min. Would that have been enough to win????
Yeah good point Kev, maybe I should just have quadruple points for the night and see where that would've put me?!
