West Cheshire Institute of Sport looking for 20 of the brightest sporting talents to invest in!

Hi,

I wanted to make you aware of an exciting new initiative focused on developing and enhancing local young people who have the potential to excel in sport is being funded by Cheshire West and Chester Council, working alongside Sport Cheshire. This is aimed at those young people with potential who are not yet on talent pathways within National Governing Bodies (or have dropped away) but have potential to move onto/back onto talent pathway with some support. Below is more information about the initiative and we would ideally like the talented young people to be put forward by/encouraged by you as the local club to ensure we get the right people to support. We are ideally looking for young people aged between 14-18 years but will consider applications from individuals outside of this age range for particular sports and circumstances.

More information:

The new West Cheshire Institute of Sport will give aspiring athletes from the Borough the support they need to realise their potential. After British athletes achieved a record tally of medals at London 2012 the pressure is on for the next generation of Olympians to deliver in Rio and on to Tokyo in 2020.

The first of its kind in the country, the West Cheshire Institute of Sport is looking for 20 of the brightest sporting talents from Cheshire West and Chester to receive expert training and support over a 12 week period commencing in January 2014. Using brand new, state of the art facilities at Chester RUFC, the selected athletes will work with some of the region’s leading coaches on their Life Style, Mental Skills, Movement Skills and Strength and Conditioning.

Councillor Stuart Parker, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Executive Member for Culture and Economy, said “There is so much young sporting potential in our Borough and we want to provide the support that will enable them to develop and grow and hopefully go on to perform on the world stage in years to come. If you are over the age of 14 and have the potential to go to Rio in 2016, I would encourage you to apply.”

Anne Boyd, Chief Executive, Sport Cheshire added: “We are lucky to see such investment in sport. This is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring sports stars to make their dreams a reality.”

To apply, please email support@sportcheshire.org to request an application form. Application forms need to be completed and received no later than 5pm on Monday 30th December 2013. Applicants will be asked to attend a lunch in January where the chosen athletes will be announced.

For more information contact Sport Cheshire on 01606 330212.

Kind regards
