Hi all.
I am looking to buy a cross bike, as a replacement for my ribble. My budget is around £1000 though I would prefer to spend less.
it's intended use is for winter commuting and weekend training, so I am after the following:
1. fairly lightweight - in the ballpark of a road bike.
2. road geometry, or as close as one can get on a cx frame.
3. eyelets, or at least enough clearance to fit a robust set of guards (NOT crud catchers).
4a. Compatible with road wheels, or has a rim that will fit 23/25mm road tyres.
4b. Will run more chunky cx knobblies, and ice tyres.
4c. Preferably one with cantilever brakes as opposed to discs, so I can interchange road wheels.
5. Shimano groupset, preferably 105.
Other reason I want a cx bike is that I will have to sell my mtb to part fund it, so still want the option of trail biking.
I know there are quite a few cx racers and cx owners on here, so hopefully you can make some recommendations?
Was looking at the CaadX and the PlanetX cx. but both have discs (although this is not a dealbreaker, just more a pain to swap tyres).
Please help!!
Cheers.
Kris.
Dolan? For much less than a grand in stock form. They have options of course. Hinde?

Kinesis do a cx bike for a grand:

I replaced my winter frame last year with a Kinesis TK3 frameset - more than pleased with quality of frame. Got it discounted at Epic Cycles, they were great to deal with.
Thanks both. few other places to shop around. Had a look at the kinesis cx before, nice frame...
can have my full carbon cronus which suits exactly what you want.
it may not be heavy enough for what you want. it also uses sram force but other than that it's perfect.
also double the budget but prepared to take £1,800 😉
(selling cos of injury and work commitments)
Would highly recommend Epic Cycles our wonderful sponsors of the Cheshire Classic!
