It was a drizzly night, yet 15 intrepid riders came out, with some to see if they could improve their overall placings in the Guardian Cup.
In reach of the trophy were series leader Dave Wilkinson, and Rich Munro – in grabbing distance of the prize.
This is where the drama started, as Rich had left his shoes at work and had to make a mad dash to get them, signing on at the start as the last man off.
It kept drizzling lightly, but started to get heavier, making difficult riding for many. Despite this, some great times were posted, with Dave, recovering from recent injuries and warming up for the 12 hour bringing in 1st place with 24:29. Second was the ever smiling Jo Blakeley, cheerily posting an excellent 25:27, and Colin Carthy, a solid 3rd with 26:02 for his last ride of the series.
We also had a cameo appearance from the current cup Guardian Cup holder – Matt Sayle, who thought he’d make a late season comeback.
So the times for the evening are below. But where are Guardian Cup scores? Well, for those not in the know, the tradition is not to announce the final positions and the winner of the Guardian Cup, until after the Final Fling – next week.
So an agonising wait for some, but an encouragement to all to come along for our last club 10 of the season, the Final Fling, on the 17th August.
Here, we’ll race the course as per usual, but you’ll get your pain for free, as there is no fee for the Final Fling.
After, we’ll go to the pub – The Crown, in Lower Peover (if you don’t know where this is, you should, as you ride past it on the club 10s every week!), where we’ll have a cheeky little drink (not free, you’ll have to pay for that yourself!), and announce the winner of the 2016 Guardian Cup.
*Note that non-club members do not qualify for Guardian Cup points.
