Good conditions saw a total of 129 finishers in the three Cyclo Cross events held by Weaver Valley Cycling Club at Greenbank, Northwich on Sunday.
Riders from all over the North West and beyond travelled to the race, which is the first event of the North West Cyclo Cross Association League.
The Under 12 event was won by Leighton Sharman of Eastlands Velo, first girl was Megan James of Abergavenny RC with a superb fifth place overall and first Under 10. The Youths race was won by Jack Humphreys of Red Rose Olympic. Ffion James of Abergavenny RC was first girl, again a great ride.
The Senior event was a closely fought battle between Leigh Fearn of Matlock CC and Tom Lowe of Raleigh Avanti RT who battled it out, with Fearn taking the honours. Conan Mayman of Rhyl was first veteran and 3rd overall with Lewis Birke of Macclesfield Wheelers taking the junior prize and 4th overall. Best lady was the promoting club’s Eleanor Underhill, with Ross Parker being the first Weaver Valley CC rider home for the second year running. Kevan Underhill just two places back with Derek Huffadine 3rd WVCC rider ahead of Jon Conboy and Andy Beswick.
Weaver Valley CC would like to thank all those who turned out to support and help with another successful event.
Well done all you WVCC riders. Sorry I couldn't join you this year, and I see that no one managed to let Ross' tyres down just before the start, I thought that was the plan!
What a fantastice event it was. An amazing amount of preplanning, and and seemingly flawless execution gave all those brave souls who signed on what looked like a great days racing. (Good to see Rich Munro out and about again as well.) Well done Nick…p.s the bacon butties were brilliant as well!!
Thanks to Nick and Ann who did a fantastic job – as did all the helpers and marshals – it was great to get so much support on the way round! It was much faster and drier this year – those with cyclo-cross bikes had a big advantage over MTBers on the flat grassy sections. A question to ponder – which has more fitness value, one hour of this or a five hour club run? I could certainly feel it in my legs this morning!
Thanks Kev, it was good to play a part – even if it was non active – and see some club members again.
From what I saw everyone who took part enjoyed it and it was very well organised.
Yep, well done again Nick, especially for organising the weather this year – much more enjoyable from a marshalling perspective!
If anybody is free this Friday (11th) I'm planning on heading up to Llandegla for the day. The weather is supposed to be good so I intend to make the most of it. If you fancy it meet there around 10am or leave a note on this here blog.
Cheers Gareth
I'm heading to the North East for a Tyneside Vagabonds re-union on Friday so thought I would do the new Winlatter Altura trails near Keswick.
Do you fancy that instead?
Ah sounds a bit far away for me, but definitely another time. Plus I'm trying to tempt a few guys from work out to Llandegla too.
Have fun, have heard good things about that trail.
thanks nick and all involved – objective achieved, didn't come last. may even have grabbed a couple of places more if i'd have took off the child seat bracket….ok, maybe not.
