Another wet night, this week’s numero uno hazard was a diesel spillage covered by lots of orange sand, not something you’d choose to ride over when trying to keep up with a bunch riding at >25 mph round a bend, but luckily this week no-one crashed. Another good turnout for WVCC, Craig and Dave riding with the young ‘uns, Nick and Chas with the under 50s and John Crystal, Kevan, Dave Astles, Graham Gregory and me doing the oldies’ race. Richard Munro, feeling bruised and battered from last week, still turned up to marshal, along with Alan Kemp; Jed was there in support, and Martin was signing on.
Nothing much to report – Chas led out his race on the final straight but said he got overtaken in the final 200m, Kevan came 4th in his race, I finished safely in the bunch and I’m not sure about everyone else – post a comment if you can add to this! The organisers restricted us to 5 laps because of poor light, which was quite far enough for me. Our race was much faster than last week and the pack had its work cut out covering various (futile) attempts at breakaways. One lad turned up and rode in running shorts and trainers, he seemed to attract the wrath of a few other riders: whether this was because he wasn’t wearing the right kit, or because he wasn’t holding his line, I’m not sure!
Everyone signed a card for Andy and we were all given an update on how he is – which isn’t great apparently, he’s damaged his ribs badly and will be off work for a bit – hopefully Andy you will take some comfort at least from everyone’s good wishes, we’re all thinking of you!
Not the most pleasant of nights to race, but plenty of action in the U50’s with eventual winner Martin ? – Manchester Wheelers being in every break, including two that I got in. One stayed away for a lap and then that was me exhausted. No sooner were we caught and Martin went again to stay away for the final lap and a half with Ian Noons – Stone Wheelers in his wake.
I felt pretty tired for the 2 up ten the following night, but fortunately Craig was up for it and towed me most of the way round for our win – the first time I’ve been over 25mph in a ten. Cheers Craig!
