Raced over 6 laps (60 miles) of the pretty flat Holt circuit, there was a good, strong field – my group (D) were racing with the younger (C) group, this can sometimes make things go a bit quicker than they otherwise would. The promised thunderstorm kept off for the race which was a good bonus.
After a pretty relaxed start, things kicked off with a vengeance and from then on it was very attritional race with constant attacking and loads of riders going out the back. I had really good legs, the best I’ve felt all year & i went with and started quite a few moves. Every move was being marked closely though & it looked like nothing was going to get away & then as if by magic after about 40 miles a group got a gap which stuck & I wasn’t in it. I was really gutted about that. I tried to get a chase together but by the time it was working it was too late, the break was gone. I finished in the second group, about 5th in category and 12th overall I think. Sam rode strongly in the younger race, finishing 6th.
