Kemp Racks up another win!

Report by Don Parry, LVRC Chairman

The rain stopped and the sun came out intermittently which was a welcome relief to most riders particularly on this course. The 38 miles were made up of 2 laps of a very demanding hill, twisty circuit with “heavy” roads. This is probably the toughest course we use in LVRC racing.
The neutralised first kilometre was up hill with a vengeance and immediately put pressure on all those slightly uncomfortable going uphill and who perhaps had not warmed up properly. After a short descent and false flat the road rose up again and Don Parry and Alan Kemp went to the front. Alan Kemp soon proved by far the stronger and rode away from the rest of the field for the whole race. That pressure in turn resulted in a group of five away from the remains of the bunch comprising, Parry, Mike Allen, Dave Rutherford, Bill Cotton and Joe Rowe riding only his second road race in two years.
Bill Cotton was first to succumb to the pace and the climbing leaving four to start the second lap. Parry tried to go it alone for almost three quarters of the second lap only to be pulled back by a tandem of Mike Allen and Dave Rutherford working effectively together. These three fought for the second place – Parry taking second from Allen and Rutherford.
Alan Kemp did what was probably the outstanding ride of the year taking about 10 minutes out of the Allen, Rutherford, Parry group, caught the bunch and the break from the CD race and left them behind as well.
Thanks to Elizabethan CC for great race and marshals on a really tough course.
