This will be hard as I was a bit too busy chatting to take in much of what went on, (apologies) but here goes…lots of WVCC riders in the action…
It was a warm night with a thunderstorm threatening – we had a few drops of rain as we started but it never developed into anything, thankfully…
1. Race 1 was 50s to 60s – Graham, Derek and Gary Brown were riding in this one, and Alan and Matt raced for the first time and both did really well. Graham was first WVCC rider in.
2. Race 2 was 60s and over – I rode this one (I get an age handicap as a female, one occasion when I’m only too happy not to insist on gender equality!). It was much harder this week because the bunch was smaller – we spent most of the time singled out behind Alan! Alan tried several breaks which got closed down but he needn’t have bothered because he won the sprint with apparent ease. I was pleased to stay with the pace and finished with the bunch (well actually I turned back on the final straight to see to a bloke who’d had a nasty crash – bit pointless really as the ambulance was there before me).
3. Race 3 was under 40s – Dave seemed to be keeping up nicely. Gareth came in first WVCC rider in the sprint. Craig and Chris Cain (first race this year) were also both in the reckoning.
4. Race 4 was 40s to 50s – Kevan rode this one because he arrived too late for his own race and finished first WVCC rider in the sprint and was in the first ten. Richard Munro, John Conboy and Steve Thomas did well too. Nick crashed on the last lap but seemed to come out of it OK – only a graze on his elbow – not sure what happened.
If I’ve forgotten anyone, apologies. Once again lots of WVCC folk in the ranks of organisers and supporters. Eleanor.
Good report Eleanor, I was a bit too close to the action this time! Got on the wheel of Mark Bethel of Macc Wheelers with half a mile to go having been fairly close to the front for most of the last lap.
The plan was going well until the rest of the bunch shot up the other side of the track then switched across into the line. Two riders collided but stayed upright! Mark came down with a bang and I went over the top of him.
He was worse than me, but nothing too serious. I just had grazes, but disappointed not to get Mark's leadout for the sprint. These fast finishers usually have the knack of working their way through the other riders and keeping out of trouble.
Charles McCulloch, bronze medallist in Saturday's National 50TT, was in the action. I got into a break with him and a few others which I thought would be a winning move, but we were reeled in after half a lap with Charles doing most of the work…if only I was as strong as him!
