The Saturday ride of the 25th July set off from the Three Greyhounds in Glorious sunshine heading for Holmes Chapel en route for Mow Cop, Knypersley Reservoir, and The Cloud. In what turned out to be a memorable ride, not for “killer” climbs, only 765m in 42 miles, or for the great views from the top of Mow Cop, more for the lessons to be learnt from two mechanicals. With one climb and one decent out of the way and on the way to Knypersley reservoir we encountered our first “mechanical”. Note 1:- Make regular checks of handlebar clamping screws if using carbon wrapped aluminium bars!!!!
With Bars firmly secured, we set off to complete the remainder of the ride including 11’s at Hollands Garden Centre. With Live Tour coverage starting at 1:00pm we were not wanting to hang around. Heading back through the lanes around Goostry and Lach Dennis we encountered the second “mechanical”. Note 2:- Beware of buying £170 carbon seat posts off Ebay for £30!! It could be a painful experience. However, it did provide for some useful muscle building exercise for the forthcoming hill climb events. Returning to the seated position was no longer an option.. All in all a great loop to do if you only want to be out for a few hours.
