Hello Rider

Appologies if you have already recieved the content of this e-mail from another source, just trying to get this out to as many riders as possible.

The Great Knutsford Race was such a fantastic event last year, enjoyed by so many, when I saw an opportunity to run a high wheeler race this year it seemed to good an opportunity to miss.

Our beautiful local park in the centre of town (Matlock) is 100 years old this year. The local council are very excited at the prospect of a penny farthing race in the park to mark it's centenary. After 100 years of “No Cycling” policy in the park I have negotiated the right to cycle for one day only!

We will be running a one hour plus one lap penny farthing race on a flat closed circuit with wide tarmac paths, a long open straight but some tight turns and a twist where the course loops round the bandstand. Course distance is 0.7km, slightly shorter than Knutsford but a good course to race (it was my training ground for the knutsford race despite it being a non cycling park) The race is open to solos and teams of two. With space for only 30 riders or pairs.

The race will be run under TLI (the league international) regulations automatically giving us liability insurance and for an additional fee, personal accident insurance will be available for riders. More info on that to follow.

If you would like to race then please get in touch with me by email or phone. An event website will be up very soon.

As well as penny farthing racing we are planning to run youth cycle races and scooter races on the same course during the day plus bike polo, roller racing, splinterbike the all wooden land speed record attempt bike will be around and anything else we can think of during the day and really fill the park with people and action.

The local rotary club will hopefully benefit with a fantastic chance to raise funds for their charity Aquabox, and will be helping us to run the event.

If you want to make a weekend of it and do something else on the Saturday, on the same weekend only two miles up the valley, The Darley Dale festival of transport will be in full swing with a great range of historic vehicles and attractions on display. They would love to see some penny farthings there on the Saturday and would give any of you racers free entry plus there is camping available there for anybody who needs a campsite for the night.

If you wish to ride in the race then please contact me ASAP
