This is a really painful subject for anyone who has been touched by cancer, and who thought that Lance Armstrong and Livestrong were in any way helping them, and giving them hope. That is why of course, to criticise this bike racer has always been so emotive. Bicycle website NY Velocity called it his 'cancer shield' for this reason. Whenever, Lance Armstrong has been criticised for doping or bullying, he has quickly brought the interview back to his work on 'the fight against cancer'. This huge PR, marketing and advertising machine called Livestrong also benefits Lance Armstrong himself and his sponsors. LIvestrong provides little or no direct money for cancer research itself, and puts it's resources into 'cancer awareness'. Many people who donate assume that their money goes directly into cancer research, but this is not the case.....

The UCI would like cycling fans and cyclists to fill in a survey online. This is our chance to make our views known to the UCI on a range of matters including doping, women's cycling, globalisation, the world pro tour, other cycling competitions, but mainly the regulation of doping and other forms of performance enhancement in the sport. The elephant in the room is Pat McQuaid....
