@CTC_Cyclists: All CTC's members are getting email from President @jonsnowC4 asking that they sign the #getbritaincycling petition http://t.co/sBwyXq4Mw5

Dear cyclist,

aim for 10% of trips by bike by 2025 and 25% by 2050, and
£10 per person, per year in funding for cycling
Those are the headlines of today’s Get Britain Cycling report, published by the All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group.

Now we need the Prime Minister to respond.

Together with the Times, Sustrans, the AA and British Cycling, CTC is urging members to sign up to a joint petition on the Number 10 website, calling for the Government to implement the recommendations.

In particular, the report calls for £10 per person, per year, to support a radical transformation of streets and roads, as well as training, promotion and marketing to shift the culture on our roads.

I gave evidence to the inquiry in March, arguing that Government needed to do far, far more to improve conditions for cyclists. This is the opportunity to start making the changes necessary.

Please do take a couple of minutes to sign up on the Number 10 site.

Yours,

 Jon Snow
President of CTC

Dear Reader

This is a landmark day for cycling in Britain. We would not have got this far without your invaluable support, but we need your help again.

Today, an unprecedented House of Commons inquiry publishes the Get Britain Cycling report, making 18 bold recommendations which call on the Government to make Britain's streets safer and more inviting for cyclists.

Please help us put pressure on the Government by signing this online petition, calling on the Prime Minister to implement the report's recommendations:

Create an annual cycling budget equivalent to £10 per head of population - an increase on the current spend of less than £2 per person.
Fund cycling through health, education, sport and business budgets as well as transport budgets - recognising the contribution cycling makes to other sectors.
Appoint a national Cycling Champion.
Create a cross-departmental Cycling Action Plan with annual progress reports.
Create a statutory requirement for all new housing, business and transport developments to consider the needs of cyclists and pedestrians during the planning stage.
Extend 20mph zones in towns and consider 40mph limits on many rural lanes.
Create cycle routes running alongside trunk road and motorway corridors.
Limit the use of HGVs on busy urban streets at peak hours.
Provide cycle training at all primary and secondary schools.
Increase the proportion of journeys made by bike from 2% in 2011 to 10% in 2025 and 25% by 2050.
Thank you for your invaluable support over the last year, please remember to take 2 minutes to sign the petition. You can read all about the Get Britain Cycling report on our free campaign page at thetimes.co.uk/cyclesafety

£10 per year?

I would gladly pay £100 a year if I thought it would actually be used to improve road cycling safety anywhere outside of London.

32,000 signatures. Backing from Dragon's Den, Vince Cable, Nick Clegg, Graham Evans MP, Barclays, Alan Sugar, CBI, Sainsbury's. This is now mainstream!:-)

Don't forget to add your support to the e-petition to force a debate in parliament. Getting more difficult by the day for David Cameron to say 'what a nice idea but I'll leave it to local government...'
