What you need is a bike mount such as the quite expensive K-Edge mount, the slightly cheapet Garmin Up-front Mount or the much better priced SRAM Quickview GPS Mount. All of these mount to your main bar, and extend the GPS out in between your extension bars. No need then for a bridge for your extension bars.

I have the Garmin out front bracket, it does help you see the device better as you no not have to look completely downwards, also when the garmin is fitted to your stem, the angle is not always the best due to glare and reflection, with the out front (or the like) the angle is adjustable.
