Having just waved off a customer who could not believe that we only charged them £37.95 for a cassette it has casued me to have a brief look around at pricing within the area.
The customer came in wanting a Shimano XT 10 speed cassette and was astonished when I told them the price. They had just been quoted £49.95 by the North West Mountain Bike Centre.
1 item locally about 24% cheaper here!
I had a look around at most of the local bike shops and across many ranges from pedals, chains, tyres etc and we are miles better on price across the board.
The lady was so pleased she has even booked in to have a new set of Shimano XT M8000 hydraulic brakes fitted after Easter weekend as we had come in almost £40 cheaper than the next nearest bike shop inc fitting!
I have worked here for almost 20 years and seen bike shops come and go - and doubtless a lot more will come and go before my time is up but this afternoon has been a real eye opener - club members beware - new shop = high prices it seems.
Some of the prices are even higher than RRP!
Just goes to show, it pays to shop around. Pity she didn't look online or she could have saved 38%.
Ah but then she could not have removed and fitted the old one herself which of course we did free of charge.
We are nice like that.............
Or she could have paid out for petrol and taken half a day out in the hope the on-line retailer would swap it free of charge for her - but then that's half a day lost and petrol money so no saving to be had really.
But you echo my own words Jim - pays to shop around - we agree.
Jim
Very presumption that she could not have fitted it herself 😉
Not a presumption at all, she asked us if we could fit it to her old wheel and remove the old cassette as she didn't have the tools required.
