22 laps, about 46 miles in total. It was a lovely day with no wind. I was old enough to be the grandparent of a lot of the other riders
It started out quick from the off and stayed quite quick & even though there were loads of attacks, nothing was able to get away – with the bunch doing 27mph, any break would have to be doing a solid average of 30mph in order to get a gap. With that in mind (and the fact I needed a good while for my legs to feel good after yesterday’s effort) I thought I would sit in till at least an hour had gone by. As it turned out the race just stayed quick the whole time, I had a dig with 3 laps to go but no one came with me & the move was quickly snuffed out. So it came to a bunch sprint, I worked my way up the bunch at the start of the gallop & came over the line in 18th place.
There I am – somewhere in the background…
