Here we are at the Tour along with our mate Lance! We had a great week in the Alps, staying in a chalet just above Bourg St. Maurice, owned by Sam and Andy – http://www.vanillaski.com/Alpine_etape/ – if anyone’s interested in staying there, we’d thoroughly recommend it. Sam used to cook for the British Cycling team so the food was fantastic and Andy is a great guide, and took us on some amazing routes, which included the Col d’Iseran and the Col de St. Petit Bernard amongst others. We watched the Tour from the top of the latter, at a great vantage point above a series of switchbacks where we watched several small groups coming up over a twenty minute period, so we got a really good look at the riders. We watched the depart the next day and Kevan jumped over the barriers to join the press pack – and got really good pics of Lance and Alberto. Rob Jones and Sue drove all the way from Dijon (5 hrs!) to watch the end of the race in Bourg, and arrived 5 minutes before the first rider came through – they then stayed overnight with us, watched the depart the next morning and then Rob went off to ride Alpe d’Huez on the way back, thus fulfilling a lifetime ambition…
