Reading Time: 2 minutes

Following previous posts, and recent statements from national cycling organisations, including British Cycling, Cycling Time Trials, Cycling UK and Audax UK, it is important that the committee make a statement about a club approach during the coming months.

Ahead of a committee meeting that we’ll be holding in on 7th July, we will not be resuming any club activities, and the situation will remain as is.

As a committee, we have discussed the practicalities of activities, and have come to some clear conclusions thus far. The primary concern is to ensure that we protect our members:

  • Club 10s. It is difficult, but not impossible. However, we have decided to pend such activities, which effectively means that we will have no club 10s. The practical aspects such as volunteers, rider safety, Police notifications, cleansing of race numbers, purchase of disposable numbers in good time, all make it incredibly difficult to try and organise.
  • Group road riding. Sunday & Wednesday rides. British Cycling have announced it safe to do so in line with government guidance (of no more than 6 riders, riding 2 metres apart). However, again, this is hugely difficult to organise a number of group rides on any given day, so we are not sanctioning or organising any group rides at the moment.
  • Group road riding. Saturday rides. As above, the guidelines are those of groups no more than 6 riders, riding 2 metres apart. Our Saturday rides would be even more difficult, especially when out trying through and off and other formations. Therefore, there will be no rides on Saturday as yet.

I know that for all of us, this is incredibly frustrating and difficult, but we have to take the safe stance on this.

So, go out on your bikes, keep riding, but let’s be patient with this.

I’ll provide an update to all members after the next committee meeting.

Stay safe
