Better weather in Wales than Northwich on Saturday morning. This was Steve Cox enjoying the brilliant Marin trail. Jonty wasn’t too sure about the only slightly treacherous descents, so made up for it on the climbs.

We had a go at him for introducing Tim to the club; newcomers aren’t meant to be this good! Strong on the climbs and quick on the technical descents, a real allrounder who’s enjoying the track nights too. Good to see Alan on knobbly tyres again with his new Hinde mountain bike, and Derek made it six of us for the morning’s ride.
After a change into dry clothes and a quick lunch in Betws, Alan, Tim and I headed over to Penmachno. It was even better than I remembered with some fast, flowing, very demanding singletrack. After a hailstorm, we got back just as it was getting dark and starting to freeze again. We made a quick getaway from the carpark as the hail turned to heavy snow covering the road.

These are both excellent trails which we’ll have to return to next year; maybe have a weekend based in Betws y Coed.
