Charity Days support

The club has contributed to two very successful charity days at the the Rugby Club and Antrobus recently both involving a ‘furthest in a minute’ competition on a Watt bike. On both occasions our stall attracted a huge amount of interest and generated loads of fun for 20 participants at the Rugby Club and 38 at the Antrobus event. On the back of this and with future events in mind we are to purchase a gazebo in club colours to promote our involvement in community activities. Thanks to Ann, Graham and Jim in particular for running both events.

Safety

Unfortunately one of our members has had a bad ‘off’ when hitting a pothole on Saturdays training ride. We are currently gathering all relevant information to compile an Incident Report. I can share the detail for any member who wants to know the location of the pothole if you contact me via email or equally when you see me on a club or training ride. Our best wishes go to him for a full recovery.

Recognition and thanks

We are grateful for donations to the club of a track bike from Gary Brown and rollers from Paul Longley and Paddy Lucas. Much appreciated,

Velodrome sessions

Unfortunately the cost of hiring the velodrome has increased and there are restrictions on the number of participants on the track at any one time. However the Club is willing to offer subsidised sessions for club members if the interest is high enough. Kev Underhill will be soliciting responses shortly.

Facebook Reports

Thanks to all those who take the time to provide comprehensive reports and accompanying photos of the events they have participated in when representing the club. They are proving to be very popular judging by the comments and ‘likes’ they attract so keep up the good work. One small reminder though please make sure you reference the event.

Wild Wales event 2023

Most members will be familiar with this gruelling challenge held annually and organised by Merseyside CTC. Typically about 8000 to 10000 feet of climbing over 80+ miles in some spectacular but equally challenging landscape. The date for this year is Sunday 27th August 2023 starting at Bala (full details available on the internet). A prize is awarded to the club with the most finishers so something for us to go at if we can get high representation.

Ride Leaders

A schedule for destinations for both the shorter ride and the longer, faster ride has been compiled to the end of August with nominated destinations and the website calendar and our FB page will be fully populated with plan by the end of this week. Thanks to those who have volunteered to lead the rides in the last quarter but could we make the same appeal for the next two months particularly as we get in to peak holiday season and the usual suspects are not available. Contact Julian Perret if you are able to support either in the forthcoming weeks please.

Club Open 25 TT event – Saturday 5th August 2023

You will shortly receive a request via email from Chris Gilbertson to assist in the organisation of this event either for timekeeping or marshalling. To maximise support available from club members there will be no club training rides on this date. Again, as above we’d be hugely grateful for volunteers to assist.

Annual General Meeting 2023

The date has been set for Tuesday 3rd October starting at 1930 , venue WP Rugby Club. Full details and agenda will be made available early in September.
