Summary of some of the key points discussed at the May Committee meeting

WVCC VISION SESSION

Grateful to Benn Jones for facilitating the first working party session last month using a SWOT analysis. The output will be a plan that identifies gaps and therefore actions to drive towards our agreed aims. The key outputs and vision will be shared as it progresses.

WPRFC CHARITY DAY

On Saturday 20th May 2023 the Rugby Club from 1100 to 1600 are hosting a charity event in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young. As well as supporting the day and making a donation to the cause we will setting up a watt bike competition to attract interest and promote our activities. There are 4 of us who have volunteered to be attendance all day but we would appreciate any support from members who could spare some time to come down.

CLUB 10 TT

Based on feedback we’ve had from participants we will be changing the scoring system for the Guardian Cup and standardising across all competitions with 6 ‘best’ scores from 12 counting rounds in total. Jim and I are just finalising the tables after the first two rounds and I will publish the tables shortly along with more detail of the rules and certainly before the next round.

SATURDAY TRAINING RIDE CLARIFICATION

Recently had some confusion as to whether the Saturday training rides are dropping or not. Based on the findings from our more serious incidents over the last year or so and reviewing our Risk Assessment accordingly we have decided that both the 0900 and 0901 rides are dropping. This is due to the fact that fatigue and an indirect pressure to keep up with the group has been a significant factor in injury related incidents. That said , we would envisage a common sense approach is adopted by riders and camaraderie is displayed in the event of a mechanical or comfort break to provide the appropriate support for the rider(s) involved.

SUNDAY CLUB RUNS

The shorter rides have risen in participants since advising destination , approx mileage/speed and voluntary leaders. Our longer rides are still very dependent on the availability of a small number of leaders due to the speeds and distances covered. It would be appreciated if any of our stronger riders could support Jim and Jules by volunteering to lead a ride in advance of the day making planning for the day easier for those involved. Accordingly we have posted nominated destinations up to the end of this month on both FB and the Club website calendar named Fast Ride. Thanks in anticipation.

JOHN HORSFIELD TRIBUTE

We recently advised the passing of a much loved friend and previous member of the club, John Horsfield. The club will be honouring his memory and contribution to the club by naming our longer Audax after him as well as the Guardian Cup trophy for the road bike classification.

VELODROME UPDATE

The Manchester velodrome has reopened after refurbishment and we are hopeful to reinstate an event later in the year .
