Hello all,

For those of you that don’t know me by name and/or face I thought I’d post a brief introduction about myself as I take on the Club Secretary role effective from November 1st 2022 .

One of the first things I discovered about cycling is that it’s difficult to recognise anyone if you’ve only even seen them in their cycling kit. I spent the first 2 to 3 months after joining the club continually reintroducing myself ! So to avoid that confusion for others below is what I look like when riding

and this is what I look like otherwise.

I first started cycling seriously about 4 years ago. In my early days I was a mad keen footballer up until my mid thirties when I started tearing muscles too often so I switched to running as my main pastime only to aggravate an unknown pre-existing condition in my left hip. That led to a hip replacement at the age of 55 so I switched to cycling as non impact activity. From there my love (addiction !) has grown as has the number of bikes I own . I joined Weaver Valley in March 2021 after being introduced by Stu Ward. I’m a fairly regular attender on the Saturday training ride , the Sunday club runs , the club 10 mile TT’s as well as being christened at Llanberis in February this year.

Why did I volunteer for the role ? A number of reasons. Firstly I’m retired and that gives me time to dedicate to the role and also the opportunity to develop some new IT skills so please bear with me in the first few months. Secondly I’d like to give something back to the club. Throughout my career I’ve been a number of operational management roles. I enjoy organising things. I’m a long way off being anything close to the best or most knowledgeable cyclist in the club but I have a lot of experience in making environments safer to operate in which I believe can be extended to the club to reduce injuries to members. Finally it’s only fair that Ady should be allowed to step back from the role after tireless commitment over the last 10 years (I know how David Moyes felt when succeeding Alex Ferguson now) and I hope to bring the same level of enthusiasm and support to the club going forward.

My contact email address will be secretary@weavervalley.org.uk and my mobile number is 07415 516116.

I have finally got round to creating my own Facebook profile too rather than piggy backing on my wifes account. I am no longer Lisa when posting on WVCC Facebook !

I look forward to the role and meeting those of you who haven’t met me yet.

David or Dave – don’t mind either
