I am booked to do this FREE reliability ride! Anyone who is not doing Llanberis and would like an easier alternative might like to consider this one? Since I will be dropped fairly quickly, I will have to rely on my map-reading skills ( dreadful!) but my family come from Ludlow, so a trip around the Long Mynd would be a trip down Memory Lane for me!

Date: Sunday, 5 February 2012
Distances: 53 miles
Event address: Sparc Centre Brampton Road, Bishop's Castle, Shropshire SY9 5AY
KILO TO GO

Rideout in Wild Edric country - Come and test out your winter training with this free to enter reliability trial.

At 10am, riders will set off from Bishop's Castle on a route to Much Wenlock (which is where the origins of the modern day Olympics started!) and back via an alternative route. All are welcome but expect the pace to be brisk and ensure that you are comfortable riding in a compact group at speed.

Simply enter for free by adding the event to your cart and paying zero pounds! Turn up from 09:15 to collect a route/instruction sheet.

They say:

'Come and join us on a KILO TO GO Rideout

Set yourself free and ride for free - yes, KILO TO GO Rideouts are free to enter! They are not sportives, so none of our usual extensive route arrowing and inviting feedstations. You do need to enter in advance though. Some of our RIDEOUTS are in the style of reliability trials where we time you and publish times on the KILO TO GO website; others Rideouts are far more leisurely. Sign-in to your KILO TO GO account (free to create here if you haven't already got one!), Just click "view event" to find out more, and enter online by clicking "add to cart" - noting that your basket value is a nice slim "00.00" Then "checkout" and simply turn up on the day to collect your route map and details.

To give you an idea of how fast or tough the Rideout should be we categorise Ridouts as Beginner, Club or Relaibility

Beginner - Suitable for those who don't usually ride in a group of people and want to gain that experience. Just ask around if you feel you need to learn the group riding etiquette. The group pace would normally be dictated by the slowest rider and we re-group for everyone at hilltops for example.

Club - More like a traditional clubrun. Expect to alternate riding 2 abreast to singling out when conditions dictate. Riders wait for those who suffer mechanical problems but might ask to leave you behind if you find the group pace a bit too much. Suitable for those with some group cycling experience.

Reliability - Run as a reliability trail where you declare which group you want to be in (fast medium or slow). We may time all riders but it's certainly not a race. Expect to find your own way back if you puncture or get dropped from the group.

At all our Rideouts we've usually got a few goodies to give away and we might even have the odd well-known guest rider or two turn up. Sometimes we'll have exclusive special offers on products and event entries - only available at KILO TO GO Rideouts! Add to that a hot or cold drink and you can see why Rideout places are likely to be snapped up quickly.'

I hope this helps!

Claire
I was hoping to be fit enough to do Llanberis but my shoulder op in Nov has put paid to that, provided I'm given the green light, this may be a good start back after 4 months off the bike. I may see you there.
