with a budget of £600 abserloute maximum. what wheels should i get as im getting mixed messages wether to go for carbon wheels or just alloy wheels. i have looked at planet-x and there wheels seem decent. wanting clinchers rather than tubs (cos im lazy and dont want to have to replace tubs) any suggestions on what i should go for much appreciated. thankyou

RS80s. Amazing, amazing wheel and a combination of both alloy and carbon. Plus you'll have cash left over.

Yeah I know Julesy uses them and a few of the girls at the road race were using them too. I know Dave Hinde rates them, they now come in a deep section version I think - best talk to Dave or Jim at Hindeys.

Just to upset the Apple cart I would say get a set of Hope Hoops, hubs can't be beaten and the rim is Open Pro, which is probably the best rim ever extruded.

To many spokes in an Open Pro all that extra drag 😉 Hold the additional spokes out the window of a car at 25mph and feel the drag!!!!!

I do like Shimano kit, but the Hope hubs are so god darn gorgeous and with 28 spokes are going to be pretty bomb proof. I have had factory built wheels, some good, some not so, but none of them compare to a good set of hand built wheels 😎

My twopenneth:

Get Ksyrium SL's. Now they ARE bombproof, and look the BOMB too in all black with red hubs and bladed spokes!

I have them, and love them! You'll be able to pick up a pair for around £600 I'm sure...
