PLEASE FORWARD TO YOUR CONTACTS
Dear Sir/Madam
Northwich Gyratory Feedback Questionnaire
The trial gyratory system in Northwich Town Centre started in Jan 2012 and we want your views on whether you feel that this scheme has had a positive impact.
It is appreciated that this trial one way system is a significant change for Northwich but it is designed to increase capacity of the road network to support the very exciting regeneration projects that are being implemented over the next few years (with nearly £100m of investment over the next 4 years, with the associated jobs)
It has been forecasted that the system would reduce overall queue lengths and the overall delay would be reduced by approximately 15%. It is felt that this system will cope better with the potential increase in traffic volumes which will be generated by these new developments
The proposed new developments such as Barons Quay, Memorial Court and The Marina (Hayhurst Quay) will enhance the town’s reputation, benefit all residents and help attract more investment.
A full evaluation will take place around Jan 2013, albeit the system is being reviewed on an ongoing basis and improvements have been made already based on feedback from residents and businesses.
Your views are really important to us and will be fully considered as part of the evaluation process prior to a decision being taken on its retention.
Please look at the attached document if you want to see a plan of the one-way system.
Please click here http://surveys.doriconline.org.uk/cwac/TakeSurvey.aspx?PageNumber=1&SurveyID=84KL495&Preview=true to complete the online feedback questionnaire.
If you prefer a hard copy of the feedback form they are available at Northwich Information Centre, post offices at Rudheath. Hartford, Castle, Weaverham & Barnton, Kingsmead Tesco store, Cuddington Community Centre, and the Hall at Delamere Park. Once you have completed the feedback form, please post it using the freepost envelope provided.
Please circulate this e-mail to other people you think would want to give their views about this trial scheme.
Best Regards
Jamie

Hi Claire,
Just filled mine in on line and commented on total lack of consideration for cyclists. So we are all singing fronm the same hymn sheet and if you agree with my views (as you may not), I made the following suggestions:
The road from the old J&S store to the Bull Ring is screwing up the gyratory due to lights at either end causing traffic to a stop and accumulate. I suggest that the right hand lane of this "cut through" should be access only for motorized vehicles to the retirement homes / very few businesses down that street. The left lane should be cyclists only with cycle / pedestrian crossing lights at either end at the end of Queens street and the Bull Ring. As these would only be occasional use they would provide safe access for cyclists and pedestrians and they would cause little disruption to motorized traffic on the gyratory as they would be used on demand only. This route would also link into Carey Park via the new Barons Quay development as they are supposed to be providing better access along the river and this could also include a cycle route. I also mentioned that better signage (there is none) plus a web-site and leaflets showing safe cycle routes via Carey Park would be a much safer alternative for bikes coming from the Barnton Direction rather than trying to negotiate Town Bridge via Winnington Hill, which is very hazardous.
I also suggested getting rid of permanent lights at the Seafarer and at the bottom of Castle Hill as these are pointless and should be pelican crossings only so they only turn red if somebody presses the button. Currently these lights simply cause bunching of cars and also cars accelerate when they change to green which is another hazard for cyclists and pedestrians.
If everybody in the club filled out the survey and put forward similar views (or better ones if you can think of them) then over 100 views would carry a lot of weight and we might stand a chance of at least getting the planners to take on board some of these ideas.
Cheers
Dave
Only just seen this, Dave! Blimey, you know your stuff! 🙂
