Well my attempt at my first century ended in disaster! Firstly I rolled up at 6.30 for a 7 start but spent an hour queing to get in the car park so didn't start until 8! 20 miles in and I unfortunately had a big off involving a complete idiot cyclist and a car sending me sliding 50 metres down the road. I'll tell more at the next club run but I'm fine, road rash all down my right hand side shoulder, arm and leg which kills and been treated for mild concussion - lucky I had my helmet on or it would be a different story and will probably now need replacing! Bike is ok but the rear dérailleur and huds are destroyed.

I'm just really angry and upset, my kit is destroyed and I was just minding my own business before the cyclist in front of me brakes sharply for no reason at all and pulls into my path! With a car coming the opposite way I had no where to go, I broke as hard as I could and tried swerving to avoid him but the momentum going down hill was too much and I caught his back wheel and went flying. The guy didn't even stop!!

I hate these mass sportives, Bike Events don't put a cap on numbers and they are just full of riders who don't look where they are going or consider other cyclists or drivers. I appreciate everyone has to start somewhere but there is basic etiquette which is common sense and not practising that is now going to quite a bit of money...and pain!

Anyway moan over, hopefully will be back out with club as soon as once I've got me bike fixed. 🙁 Hopefully Kris had a better time than me!

Woody mate good to hear your ok.

We past a loads of them on our way to Wales yesterday on the club run. 5 across the road at one point. I was in Wilmslow last night at 1930 and there were still hundreds of mountain bikes making there way to the finish. I'm sure they raise loads of money, but the majority are a danger to themselves and other road users.

Hope to see you next Sunday. At least you'll have some good war wounds know 🙂
