I am going to sign up for the Fred Whitton next year. does anyone fancy joining me?
I don't like riding anything steeper than 1 in 5, the gradient up Hardknott & Wrynose is mad, so that's a NO!
No takers?
Kris
good luck if you decide to go for it - problem is it is greatly oversubscribed and they use a lottery to select riders. My son and his mates (about 10) entered last 2 years and only 4 got to ride last year.
However they do a self certified ride you can do any time of year where you get a transponder to use and swipe key points on the route - a group could make a weekend of it (count me out my legs wouldn't cope, I've ridden some of those climbs before).
Another great ride is the Lakeland Loop, good training if you get a ride in the Whitton:

My son's ridden this and reckons it's one of the best sportives around, great feed stations and organisation - makes the Cheshire cat look second rate.
hope that helps and good luck with what you decide
Cheers Dave!
I work with someone who knows the organisers, so we should be fine getting in. Great recommendations, I'll be sure to look them up if the FWC falls through.
