As the Tour de France is fast approaching, I think it's time to encourage the members who use the forum, to have a go at the Road.cc Fantasy Cycling Leagure. Just like a football fantasy league, you get to pick a team of riders, and enter them into a race.
In the case of the Road.cc league, you can race almost the whole season, picking teams prior to each race, and scoring points accordingly. There are a few of us who have entered teams in the past, and some who have already started this season.
So, go on, have a go! The more the better. We can get a good league going, and exchange banter in this members only forum.
As things progress, I'll cross-post the results from the league here.
So, if you haven't done already and you want to have a go, Claire has already set up a league (just before this year's Giro).
So:
1. Just log onto http://fantasy.road.cc
2. Set up an account (it's free, don't bother paying fo the premium account).
3. Enter the Tour de France competition first, then pick your team. When you've done this, just join a league, and enter the code 75811 to join the Weaver Valley league.
Here here! It's a good laugh!
I hope some of the veterans of previous years will come back too? Dave Wright? Rich Munro? Anyone else?
Got my Tour mags today, so time to swot up! 💡

It's nearly here! On Saturday the riders will roll down the start ramp to kick off three weeks of fantastic racing. Are you ready?
If you haven't aleady, head over to our Tour de France 2012 preview to get the skinny on the stages and some tips from our resident pundit Simon MacMichael. We've been speaking to Geraint Thomas too; he's not riding the Tour this year due to the Olympics but he's still weighing in with some tips on the race; check back soon for G's take on who will be this year's picks.
The roster is nearly finalised: we're down to 198 starters but there's normally a couple of last-minute changes. If you want to keep abreast of any rider switches you can subscribe to the Fantasy Cycling roster thread on the forum; you'll get an email each time changes are made.
Play for free or play for big prizes!

I have changed my team so often that my head is spinning - I must have selected every single rider at least once! Please start the race and end the misery of unlimited selections! Truth of the matter is, there are just too many good riders in The Tour this year. It is so open! For those of you who want to pick a team and don't know who to choose, I have a hint for you.....
I checked a couple of forums to see who the amateur pundits are going for, and here is the straw poll:
Cancellara 15
Wiggins 10
Sagan 5
Martin 4
Evans 0
Some are saying Cancellara has done nothing this year, and that Evans and Wiggins will not want to go for broke. I am surprised there are not more punters for Martin. You will have guessed the dilemma - you can only have 4 star riders, and there are 5 main contenders - if you can afford them. Also, there are so many time-trialling National Champion domestiques, that any one of another 10 riders could pull out a surprise. A prologue tends to be a bit unpredictable anyway......
Good Luck!

Problems today for anyone who chose Sagan (me!) who put a foot down, and for anyone who chose Martin ( Robert! ) who changed bike. 🙁
Anyone fancy doing a quick summary of tomorrow's choices - or are your cards held firmly to your chest? 😉
The Weaver Valley League has started with Titch and Dave Wright in the lead by choosing the winning combo of Cancellara and Wiggins, while Adrian didn't forget to choose his idol, Voigt, who won him 8 points towards his third place!
Well done guys! 🙂
Spartacus is back! An impressive win to take 7 seconds from a flying Wiggins..!
Today was such an exciting stage! That was such a wicked uphill finish with so many twists and turns along the way! I screamed when Chavanel hit the front, and I am so happy for Sagan with the win too! (Not sure about the chicken wings celebration...) Over-excited? Moi? 🙂

1. Yes. An excellent first stage. Shame that Tony Martin got caught up in the chaos of an early crash. Not a good start to a grand tour for your confidence.
2. Yes, you are over excited. Calm down, or you'll never keep it up for three weeks...
Peter Sagan is an impressively strong rider. Young with plenty of brashness in him, but the strength to back it up. Agreed, finish line celebration was a bit wierd. Didn't quite get it. Saying that, better than Contador's 'pistolero'. After him doing it stage after stage in every race, I wanted to break his finger off.. Too extreme? Moi? 🙂
OMG, Cavendish!!!!!!
What an amazing sprint - Cav times his run perfectly off Greipel's train. No Sky lead-out train - all his own win! 😀 😀 😀
That was incredible. Cav is such an awesome talent, we're watching one in a million. We won't see anyone like him for ages so enjoy!
There is no stopping Peter Sagan!!! Cheeky boy finish again!
