After a day of sunshine yesterday, there was a good turn out at the legion, probably more in anticipation of more sunshine than expectation. Even Jack Campbell made a re-appearance (albeit brief).

The short run headed off to Holt or the Ice cream farm, whilst we headed to Two Mills, via Bangor-on-Dee, 10 of us set off including Alan Kemp (complete with Chest infection), Jack & Kev Campbell, Jamie (on his first Long run), Josh, Dave Fearon on his Fixed, Ewart, Titch, and one other club member (sorry not sure of his name).

We set off down through Whitegate, on the new tarmac, which was great in comparison to the previous surface. At Clay Lane, Dave announced he was doing his own thing and left us, at Eaton we lost our next rider as the club member with no name mentioned above left us.

Unusually, Alan was sat in the pack on not leading the group; he could be heard struggling with his chest. The group was staying together nicely and the pace was nice and steady. At Beeston, the Campbells turned off, leaving 6 heading to Bickerton, Jamie was showing how strong he can ride with some good stints on the front, and Josh on his first ride out in about 4 weeks was also riding well.

Onto Bangor on Dee and through Holt, there was no sign of the short run, I assume they decided on the ice cream farm. At Chester, the forecasted rain started to fall bang on time, at this point 6 became 5 as Al decided (quite rightly) the rain would not do his chest any good. We donned our Capes and carried on to the Mills, Ewart lead the group from Chester to 20 Yards before the Mills when Titch couldn’t resist being the first through the gate (shame on you titch ☺ ).

The Café was very quite, we were soon fed and watered and back on the road, it took 10 mins or so to get warm again, I set the pace from the Mills to where Jamie and I left the others at Manly Mere.

It was great group, that held together all the way and a good pace. I finished with 75 miles on the clock with an average of 18.1 Mph and 3200 ft of elevation Gain. Thanks to all the guys.

good write up jim, i finished with 82 and an 18mph average and had to stick it into limp home mode after catching Ewart through delamere. I cut off after hatchmere and when i got into weaverham i saw an ambulance come flying past with all the blues and two's (scuse the phrase) going, hope everyone got home safe and sound?

Hi Jim,

I left the Legion for a solo endurance training ride as I only came to the Legion to ride out with Caroline who went on the short clubrun. As I left for my ride the long run followed me so when you regrouped at the cross roads at Whitegate I just carried on. I did 95 lumpy miles in 5:03 and my route was; Oulton Park, Nantwich, Woore, Stone, Meir Heath, Cellarhead, Leek, Macclesfield, Gawsworth, Goostrey, Home. I stoped for 3 minutes at Meir Heath to fill up my bottle but other than that just kept on going. I was dead jammy as I stayed dry the whole way apart from a ferw spots near Bosley, but 10 minutes after I got home it chucked it down. I think the Audax lads took the distance prize this weekend as they did 300km (186 miles) through Saturday night / Sunday!!

Cheers

Dave

Well yes 'spose' we did, apart from the little detour at Burely Dam [approx 240km] [where we did a little extra when we took a wrong turn and had to retrace]
We got in 312 KM in 16hrs 15min [and yes it was cold thru the night] will blog the ride later..

It was a good ride and I enjoyed it. I just need my back sorting and definitely a new knee. With being away doing a Medieval show this weekend , time off the bike will hopfully help :}

Cheers for that. I'll see how I go and might give it a try. I had two Sports Massages for my back around this time last year when it was really bad and know it can work wonders 🙂

just a passing observation Jamie.... Back and knee problems, at the same time 2 years running ? Has it something to do with your position on the bike ? IIRC, front of knee, saddle too high. Back of knee, saddle too low. Back pain = saddle vs bar height ?

I'm sure someone here knows a lot more than me......

Ive had the back problem for awhile which is down to work. Im a Postman and nearly 16 years of carrying stuff has messed it up a little. After 40 miles or so it starts to ache really badly. I get it when driveing aswell.
Its the right Knee at the back on the very right hand side wheres theres a big bone and tendon. The knee is from Cycleing and ive had it before but it went away. I did have a Bike fit when I got my bike at Epic 2 years ago so hope the rideing postion is fine. Some people have said I look a little low tho.
When the Bike was shipped to me they marked the Seat hight on the seat post with some tape. Ive lined it up so its at the top of the tape with the rest coverd. If I'm to low it could mean I need to raise it so its positioned at the bottom of the tape so the its higher.

Ive just grabbed my papper work and the saddle height should be 75cm from the BB to saddle top. When you messure this following the frame and seat post to the middle of the saddle im at 73cm so Ill raise it a little and see. I hope im doing that right tho !

a bike fit should be fine then. But 20mm is a hell of a lot. Have you still got same shoes and cleats etc?

Pedal precision at Manchester velodrome, would highly recommend for a bike fit.
