Hello folks Kev's asked me to put a post up to say he and Richard Calder have planned a MTB ride on Saturday and everyone is welcome to join them - they're meeting at Macdonalds on the J24 on A55 at 9 a.m. and they plan to ride over the Carnedds - apparently Richard knows a route. Anyone who wants to join them can meet at the car park or if you want a lift or more info ring Kev on 07771 794610.
Sadly I won't be there as I'm working all weekend...
Sounds good but probably won't make it. In case I do, where is J24? (no junction nos. on my map for A55)
Found J24 near Abergele. See you there at 9am with mountain gear and lots of food!
Richard had a great idea about heading over some of Snowdonia's 3000' mountains and the two Kev's and I were game enough (perhaps daft enough) to accompany him.
We took the Roman Road which was ridable all the way up Drum before pushing up Foel Fras, the most northeasterly of the Welsh 3000 footers. A very short video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELN-xDw2_UM
From here we headed along fairly flat terrain to Carnedd Uchaf under clear blue skies, but a strengthening SE wind. Heading south from the summit I shot a little video before the camera batteries expired. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkdbHxEMQp8
We continued over Foel Grach then onwards to Carnedd Llewelyn, but turned back about half a km before the summit as the terrain got completely unridable and the wind was continuing to strengthen. We found a route back to the north and west dropping into the village of Aber. Sorry the videos weren't better, but at least they give some idea of the spectacular scenery. Thanks Richard
