anyone done this? in stark contrast to the downhill day, I'm planning on doing a more sedate paced distance ride when the weather warms up in a month or two. be nice and steady going at the slowest riders pace *cough* me, and should provide some beautiful scenic and suburban riding starting and finishing in northwich. only a thought at the moment but be nice to have the usual suspects out and I'm also thinking Campbell and Ady Japp (prep for your TdF ride Ade?) and nick, tell Steve M I'd want him there.

Andy I really fancy this one, sounds right up my street! But Kev says it sounds too flat for him and that real men don't eat quiche, nor do they go on flat mountain bike rides...

Did I really say that? I can't find it at all.

I'd probably have a punt at that, 100 miler off road including to the start and back would be nice. If we put a 20 inch wheel in the back of Kev's mountain bike, it would feel like he was riding uphill all day?

edit - I bloody love Quiche.

Mmmmmmm. Quiche.

One big warning Andy ..... punctures!!! 😮 Every time I ride along a tow path I get punctures as the farmers cut the hawthorn hedges and leave the cuttings on the tow path. Once I got 4 in the front and 2 in the back on one 5 mile stretch with freshly cut hedges. I like ambling along tow paths but be warned 😉

Big answer Dave..... Tubeless!!!

Actually, to be fair, he is dead right, so right in fact I'd be willing to lend my 26" wheels to anyone who wanted to join in with this. 10 speed rear and 15mm front fork compatible.

well, considering the conception of the idea was heavily sponsored by Budweiser, it seems to have a few takers! be great to have you along jim, and I'm sure you could influence a couple more closet mtb'ers to give it a try....when was the last time that Cube bike had dirt on it jules? 😉 Eleanor, always a pleasure to have you along, what if we put a checkpoint value on each of the locks...could that twist kevs arm? matt hornby.... http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/riding-cheshire-ring titch great, and dave, I took three 'devils fingernails' on the middlewich to northwich towpath a couple of weeks ago, got away with leaving the last one in and it got me home.... so is that a yes that you and Caroline are coming? Eleanor, with you working some week ends, it would make sense to use yours days off as a starting point to get some dates down, I'm thinking 4-6 weeks away maybe? also, what are people's best guesses at how long this would take... I'm planning at least one 'gammon and chips' pub stop at one of the copious amounts of hostelries we'll pass, plus a couple of cheeky pints on route if its nice enough weather... 'be rude not to!' 😆

great stuff jules - now there's a bit of a posse hopefully doing it and we are going to hit the towpaths a bit more 'mob handed'... we can include the more ropey east manchester side of the ride, which to be honest i was going to bypass if i was on my own. don't worry titch, we'll still go down canal street, i just wouldn't put too much lycra on 😆

Just spotted Matt's comment...Andy you never said anything about 100 miles! Yikes that's a long way on a towpath. Which bike I wonder... cyclo x or MTB? And as for hazards, forgetting the aforementioned hawthorn for a moment, what about fishermen's telescopic rods?! In terms of dates, if we're keen on Saturdays, how about May 17 or 24, or June 21st...which has the added attraction of being the longest day of the year which I for one might need if it's really 100 miles, allowing for a few hawthorn punctures, coffee stops and telescopic rod incidents!

It will certainly be a testing ride due to the length but a nice one to put on your WVCCCV! either of the two may dates are good for me however the later is a bank holiday weekend so would prefer the 17th. any of these dates suit anyone else? ....and do you think 7 in the morning would be a realistic start time?
