Our regular bi-monthly committee meeting was held on Tuesday 9th January 2024. Some highlights include improved safety statistics in 2023, a new plan to improve our communication between members and an update on the vacant Club Runs Captain position. Read on to find out more.

You will also have seen recent communications about the Club Dinner (3rd Feb – book now for a great evening!), the kit stock sale and that the annual Llanberis ride is coming up fast – get your booking in now if you haven’t already!

Safety – we’ve made significant improvement in our stats over 2023 compared to 2022. In 2022 we had four incidents with serious injury whereas in 2023 we’ve only had one. This was caused by an environmental factor, in this case the road surface. We continue to monitor all incidents. near misses and unsafe behaviours in order to look for patterns and potential to make changes to improve safety on club rides. Our annual review of the Risk Assessment will take place at the next committee meeting and any changes will be announced.

Communications – we recognise the difficulties in effectively reaching all our club members with every piece of information. We have so many communication channels: the website, Facebook, WhatsApp and email and no one method is fully effective in reaching all members. In order to improve this, Kev and Eleanor Underhill , Steve Haskew and Ady Jaap have done a strategic review and have produced a club communications policy to work with. The first action was to create a specific role on the committee and we are please to announce the appointment of Steve Haskew as our Communications Secretary. You will begin to see evidence of Steve’s technical knowledge in forthcoming communications and, as ever, are welcome to make suggestions that will help members to keep informed.

John Keen is also in the process of collating a Welcome Pack for new members giving key information on contacts , roles and where to find information.

Club Runs Captain – with no forthcoming volunteers to take on this role we will continue with the current practice of John Keen posting routes for the long rides. We hope that a volunteer will come forward on the day to lead the ride but if not, all riders can download John’s route to follow. Short rides will continue to be set quarterly in advance and ride leaders agreed beforehand.

Finance – although high interest rates are generally bad news for most it has given the club an opportunity to improve the investment of our savings account. Our treasurer, Rich Munro has moved a significant proportion of the club funds into a higher interest account.

Old kit sell off – you will probably have seen a recent post from our new Clothing Secretary Kev Davies inviting orders for new kit for the end of the month with Provision. Additionally please look out for an offer shortly where we will be selling our old Provision and Giordano stock at discounted rates.

Llanberis – Benn is now taking deposits to secure places for the weekend of 23rd/24th March. There are still places left for anybody wishing to join a challenging but hugely enjoyable ride.
