Sorry no photo today. Lots of people at the club today but only eight (Chris and Matt, Jules, Dylan, Graham, new rider Tony, Kev and me) opted for the longer ride. Kev led us (with a few helpful contributions from Graham!) and we took a direct route to the cross roads on the A54 then up over the Dunbars. It’s a beautiful ride – with views into the Peaks, and spring very much in evidence. Everyone made their own way up the climb with Dylan leading the way. A brave group then did an extra loop down to Wincle and up out again – whilst I joined a smaller group who went directly to the cafe. I gather Tony managed to fall off his bike going uphill, because he hit some cow (or was it horse) poo and lost traction – he then had to go back down the hill again so he could clip in and get started, and ride up again – a good one for the club dinner, we thought!
Lunch was good, and we emerged to drizzle, so caped up and returned via the evil double arrow climb up and over the hill behind the Farm, descending past the Hanging Gate pub back into Sutton Lane Ends. At this point we ended up in a road works diversion and lost Graham and Tony, hopefully they got back OK. We rode back swiftly with Jules and Kev doing sterling work on the front and we were back home ready for an afternoon nap (otherwise known as watching the Giro)
How did the shorter group get on?

A more sedate pace this week on the short run, I believe Alan's hangover may have been the contributing factor to that! We had a good group of around 20. We also had a new rider who rode very well. We ended up at Congleton Garden Centre running through Goostrey and Lower Withington on the way (passing the Macclesfield Bikeathon) and stopping just outside Congleton due to a puncture.
The cafe sprint was won by yours truely and after beans on toast we split into 2 groups, one group lead by Alan went direct home while another group took a longer (and pacey) loop lead by Craig.
Great ride and good to get some hilly miles in the legs.
First visit to the cafe at Blaze Farm. Very tempted by the ice creams on display. Shame it wasn't ice cream weather :-(.
Won't be out next week. See you soon
Very nice this blog!
