It appears not to have gone unnoticed, that since I’ve been in full employment again I’ve not been keeping the blog up to date: so I thought I should post an apology to regular fans (or otherwise) of this column, and provide at least a brief update on WVCC life as I’ve known it over the last few weeks…so here goes.

1. The main reason there have been so few updates is that there have been so few club runs – because we’ve all been marshalling etc. – what with our cyclo cross race, hill climb and BC road race in the last month, many of us have been busy judging, waving flags, making tea and standing getting cold on corners! All races went v. well and I think we should be really proud that WVCC can stage such excellent events. Having organised the road race myself for the first time this year, I can pay tribute to the strength and depth of WVCC expertise – there’s a fantastic team in the club who (luckily) know what they’re doing when it comes to race admin, judging, convoy driving, marshal organising, sign erection, refreshment preparation, risk assessments, radios/kit provision etc. etc. etc. Many thanks to everyone involved in organising and marshalling! I think we should consider setting up a Pro Tour team. Bags be Directeur Sportif.
2. Another reason why there have been so few updates is that I’ve been riding cyclo-cross races – Kev and I are trying to do the necessary 10 events to get a place in the North West league. It’s great fun and great training so if you fancy doing one yourself, come and join us.
3. Who saw Claire O’Brien in this week’s Cycling Weekly, on the cover and a massive picture of her inside, sporting her WVCC top! Well done Claire for a great ride and for promoting WVCC!
4. And of course we’ve had a track session which was called off because of paint fumes – Dave Fearon is now organising these so if you want to know more give him a ring or e mail him on Tel:01606 74577 Mob: 07989 382344 e-mail: nofearon@hotmail.com

Incidentally if I’m not riding the club runs on Sunday then please let your club mates know how you got on by sending a report to me on the.underhills@tesco.net. I’ll post it as soon as I get it.
