Today’s short run ventured to Riverside Cafe in Chester. A beautiful sunny morning saw a good crowd of around 40 roll up at the Legion. Being Rememberance Sunday we were joined by a band unfortunately they didn’t give us a tune!

3 runs saw Ian Smith and Craig take a small sized group over to Blaze Farm while Kev Underhill lead a run to Bangor-on-Dee. No doubt we will hear more about that in another blog shortly. The final run headed to Chester, Al putting together a route which included a few lumps and bumps, the highlight being the climb of Mersey View. This had a good take up with a good 16 riders including a few of the longer run crew recovering from a tough Saturday ride with Kempy! Jules, Jon Conboy, Terry, Tony, Phil, Elaine, Matt, Dave & Caz Fearon, Graham Greg, Jimmy, Andy Risk, Sid and obviously Al. I’ve got a feeling I’ve missed a couple so give me a shout if I have.

It was a good bunch to have out, lots of banter, good competition up the climbs and a comfortable pace which saw us all stick together. Jimmy ventured off before the cafe and Graham Greg headed for Loggerheads after the cafe stop. Dave Fearon was strong all day and took the sprint through Delemere Forest. It was a good battle which saw my heart rate top out at 202bpm (!!!). An early attack from Fearon, followed then by Tony, was brought back in. A bit of bumping and grinding later, Tony attacked again but it was too soon. Fearon pounced and accelerated, Wood chased but couldn’t get him back before the line.

We escaped the showers, a small sprinkling as we reached Acton Bridge was about it. Spot on route as always by Al and it was great to see everyone rolling along in the bunch with no difficulties. If everyone can keep this fitness up over Winter, 2013 will be very interesting!
