A very brief report on yesterday's long run...
I got battered.
It really didn't help imbibing all that wine the day before but in any case i did get battered. I really do need to get fitter.
By the time we got to Two Mills we'd gone to Holt and Bangor on Dee and Back to Holt again and then Chester (63 miles for me).
We started out as 10 but various people dropped out along the way (Ewart, Rich M, Craig) until on the way back Alan went off the front never to be seen again, Giles and Rooney (?) went after him and me, Jules, Tony and Kevin came home together. Kev punctured just before the forest and i got dropped there.
Eventually got home having done 95 miles.
An excellent, hard day.

The other long run to Dagfields saw myself and James Risk set off at around 9.15.

The early morning roads through and around delamere were a bit dicey, but from the off we set a fast but steady pace into the wind. Once we got to the safety of the A54 and main roads, we upped the pace quite a bit.

I was on the new bike and felt good, James was on a so called 'red week', or as I know it, a beasting week, so we really pushed it all the way to Malpas. As we went along, I could feel myself getting more and more aero. It was only when I started falling off the back of the bike that I realised my saddle was loose and it was now pointing at a ball crushing 30 degrees.

Seat adjusted, we hit the climb into Malpas, and once through we started to feel the headwind turn into a crosswind. I had my silly deep sections on and got blown all over the shop. the crosswind gradually turned into a tailwind from Audlem, and we got respite. By this time James was really suffering having had a heavy couple of days previous. Me having the fresher legs, I took the lead.

At Dagfields we stuffed down arguably the best scones ever, and waited for the others. Eventually after an hour we decided they were not going to arrive, and headed home via Crewe and Middlewich.

the pace again was really fast with the tailwind, but Risky was cramping left right and centre, so we decided to take it steady.

I could feel myself getting more and more aero. It was only when my knees started hitting my chest that I realised my seatpost was loose and it was 3 inches lower than when I started.

Seatpost adjusted, we wound down the remaining miles, and I got home with 76 miles on the clock.

Thanks to James for the company, much appreciated, and I think a great days training for us both.

I was close. Considering I had blood coming out of my ears for most of the day I think I did pretty well!
