All,

Please see below initiative by the council to engage with cyclists to gain opinion. This seems to have passed us by due to it's 'low' profile.

I'd encourage club members to check out the link below, and follow the link to 'Cycling Consultation'. Here you will be able to fill out the questionnaire and have your say in the consultation process. Deadline is 13th July - but don't wait! It only takes a few minutes to complete.

I've also forwarded this to the committee to see if we, as a club, can be involved in the process when the consultation meetings take place.

Have your say about Cheshire West and Chester’s new cycling strategy !
Cheshire West and Chester Council is preparing a new Cycling Strategy for the Borough. This is your chance to let us know your thoughts about how we can make improvements to cycling in the Borough to make it easier, cheaper and more convenient.
There has been considerable investment in our local cycling network over the last ten years. Chester was successful in gaining Cycle Demonstration Town status between 2008 and 2011. This led to an overall increase in the number of people cycling in the Borough.
The challenge for the future is to improve local links to the cycle network and consider how to extend the success and lessons learnt from the Cycle Demonstration Town project to the rest of the Borough.
We are keen to encourage more people to cycle to work, to school and for the fun of it. We hope to be able to promote cycling as part of our tourism agenda. We are also keen to develop awareness campaigns to highlight the health benefits of cycling and encourage more people to take advantage of cycle training schemes.
The consultation exercise is running between Monday 14th May and Friday 13th July. A series of meetings have been set up to meet with various interest groups and potential partners. A questionnaire has also been prepared for members of the public to complete. The questionnaire is available on the Council’s website and can be filled in online.
Copies of the questionnaire are also available by calling the Council’s Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 7036. Copies are also available in Libraries and Information Centres.
The deadline for returning completed questionnaires either online or by post is Friday 13th July 2012.

Hi Adrian,

Many thanks for letting us know about this consultation process and new cycling strategy! It would be really great if all 107 members could fill in this short consultation form, not forgetting to add that you are with the WVCC on the last page.

I have filled in the form, and it was very easy. Do it now! 🙂

thanks

Claire

A good idea here. If you are able to get involved in the consultation it may be worth raising this concept.

I'll mention it in my feedback.

Hi Ady,

I have received an e-mail tonight from Councillor Jill Houlbrook, the Chairman of the CWaC Cycling Working Group, to say our group will be included in the consultation process. 🙂

Please still fill out those consultation forms everyone!

Claire

Thank you for writing to me, yes CWaC are keen to promote this hence the consultation process, please do encourage as many of yuor fellow cyclists to fill in the consultation form and I am pleased to see it is on your website. I live in Acton Bridge so am familiar with the race circuit which has run through our village for many years.

As regards the ins and outs of the consultation and what you might be able to do to assist, Mark may well be able to help you out as he forwarded the message onto me and I sent it out to my e-contact list, one of the recepients sent it on to you. I have also copied on Cllr Stuart Parker, Executive Member for Culture & Recreation who I am sure will also be pleased to see your offer of assistance.

RE: CYCLING STRATEGY FOR CHESHIRE WEST AND CHESTER BOROUGH

I have been invited to attend a meeting as a Cycling Champion!

Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council is in the process of developing a new Cycling Strategy for the Borough. In addition to a recent workshop and the launch of a consultation questionnaire, they are holding a series of meetings with key stakeholders and contacts from different sectors who can contribute to the development of this Strategy.

A meeting for Cycling Organisations and Champions will be held on Thursday 5th July 5:30pm-7:30pm, and two WVCC delegates have been invited to attend.

The purpose of the meeting will be to identify priorities for, and the direction of, the new Cheshire West and Chester Borough Cycling Strategy.

The deadline for returning completed questionnaires either online or by post is Friday 13th July 2012.

Please circulate this email to others who may have an interest in completing a questionnaire.

P.S. I also have hard copies of the questionnaire that can be posted back too! (Claire)

Dear Club members!

I have been chatting to Gina Bebbington of the Northwich Guardian, to publicise the cycling strategy survey in Northwich. She has asked to take a photo of me in club kit on Monday 18th June at 2pm at my house. She thought it would be a great idea to have some other WVCC cyclists too, perhaps in a variety of club kit and with a variety of bikes, to show the diversity of the club - maybe add a tricycle, quest, tandem, mtb? (I had suggested doing this at Oulton Park on Tuesday, but she doesn't want to do an evening, and it is past her deadline!)

If any club members are not at work, and can make it for the photo, ideally with full club kit and a bike, then please contact me for further information!

Thanks

Claire

Further to Claire's post above, both Claire and I have been speaking about the shots, and have agreed that we can get the appropriate images for the Guardian prior to the club runs on Sunday (hopefully weather permitting!)

Therefore, immediately prior to the club run on Sunday, I’ll be there, armed with camera and tripod to grab a few varied shots for presentation to the paper. This will mainly be group shots of us.

In order to illustrate our ‘varied’ cycling interests, I’ll pack a tandem and mountain bike in my car as ‘props’ for a few of the shots.

This shouldn’t delay the run at all, and I’ll be there from around 09:00 to get as many decent shots as I can.
