Reading Time: 3 minutes

The committee met in early March for our regular meeting. News highlights include a new Off Road Secretary, news on how we hope to consolidate our improvements in safety, a potential Kit Demo from Provision and dates for the diary including the Mens and Womens Road Race!

Off Road Secretary

Out with the old…
… and in with the new!

Having performed the role of Off Road Secretary for some time, Kevan Underhill is stepping down from the role as he’s not currently able to ride regularly off-road and felt that it was a good opportunity to have a more active off-road rider take charge! Following discussion with others, Max Reynolds has been asked to take on the role of Off Road Secretary which he has accepted. Officially, changes in secretary are confirmed at the AGM in September, but the committee unanimously agreed that Max will act as Off Road Secretary effective immediately. Kev will remain on the committee and continue to look after both the annual Cyclocross event and track nights which he hopes to get back underway at the Manchester velodrome.

Safety Update

We have seen a year-on-year improvement in incidents involving serious injury – from 4 in 2022 down to 1 in 2023 which is great news and a big thanks to everyone for their increased awareness.

One of the recent safety initiatives was that ten members undertook a British Cycling “Club Leader” accreditation which includes First Aid training. The long-term goal would be that every club ride could have an accredited leader and so we are still looking for more people who would be willing to have training and lead some rides, with the training paid for by the club. If you would be interested please contact Dave Cope.

We will send a further communication very soon about risk awareness and how we can all play a part to ensure our own safety and the safety of others, including being aware of the club’s Risk Assessment for group rides.

Dates for the Diary – Audaxes and Road Races

The WVCC Audaxes are coming up very soon. Our traditional 108km Ron Sant Memorial Ride will run alongside a new event, the John Horsfield Memorial Ride. This new 212km event to the Welsh town of Bala will be an excellent test of the legs and a great opportunity to step up a distance for anyone who has previously ridden a 100mi century and wants to ride a little further! More detail and entry details here.

The WVCC Mens and Ladies Road Race has been finalised with British Cycling and will take place on Sunday 30th June on the Great Budworth circuit, with HQ at Witton Albion FC. Thanks to Jeff Wood for his organisational efforts – he will announce more detail as the date approaches.

Provision Kit Demo

Kev Davies is looking to set up a kit demo evening with Provision to show a selection of the club kit available. This could potentially be in early May and more details will be communicated in advance of the event.
