Les thank you that was a really good quiz and it was a great way to get everyone together. It’s always nice to see what people look like without their helmets on. The best bit was being on the winning team (which felt a bit fraudulent because I didn’t know the answers to any questions – but I did contribute to our victory by trying to nod intelligently and I kept my team motivated by telling them how clever they were) so here’s to next year (and I’m sure you’ll be persuaded to do it next year cos we know you loved doing it really, you just like to be begged!) as long as I can be in the same team as Richard and Chris (and can we have some girl questions please as well as kids’ questions – I’ll leave you to work out what a girl question looks like!)EleanorParticipant6 December 2010 at 17:31Post count: 252EleanorParticipant6 December 2010 at 11:09Post count: 252
Hi Dylan so sorry to hear about the idiot driver. How are you fixed for getting your bike repaired? Kev says if you want to borrow a bike in the short term you’re welcome – we can sort something out for you. Get in touch via the forum or we’ll be at the velodrome tonight. Cheers, Eleanor.EleanorParticipant20 November 2010 at 23:37Post count: 252EleanorParticipant20 November 2010 at 17:19Post count: 252
We’ll come. Is there anyone out there who wants to join our team? You’ll need complementary skills – no point duplicating. Our knowledge gaps are 1. pop music 2. cycling knowledge 3. sport 4. any other sort of music 5. popular culture 6. any other type of culture 7. science 8. arts 9. general knowledge 10. history 11. geography 12. astrophysics. But I’m good at speling and Kevan has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the waste industry. So you’ll be OK with us.EleanorParticipant3 November 2010 at 19:58Post count: 252EleanorParticipant31 October 2010 at 20:03Post count: 252
Well I rode with them today and I thought they were useless – probably because I had so little clearance. The mud (and there was lots of it, the minor roads we used were covered in it) just got stuck under the mudguards and I ended up with loads of resistance which was v. frustrating. I think the only answer is to have a proper winter bike designed to take proper mudguards…EleanorParticipant31 October 2010 at 19:49Post count: 252
Hello chaps, just posted a report on
Pleased to hear Jed that you are OK – when I see you next I’ll tell you about how your concussion enhanced your conversational abilities!
Thanks everyone for your company, I really enjoyed it today even though I suffered. The bath and afternoon nap were good too!EleanorParticipant8 October 2010 at 22:19Post count: 252EleanorParticipant8 October 2010 at 22:17Post count: 252
Matthew it sounds like you’ll be playing with yourself then. Or your imaginary friend? So sad! Sorry we can’t come, we’re having a party for James as he’s off to Oz for a gap year…EleanorParticipant7 October 2010 at 20:22Post count: 252
Some nice feedback from a Leeds Mercury rider – anyone seen his brolly?
A big thanks to you and your club members and volunteers for turning out to promote the race in such awful weather. Please pass on my thanks to them through your website/email. Whilst things didn’t quite work out for Leeds Mercury as we’d hoped, I did have time to glance through the spray in the bunch to see that the event was superbly marshalled, the volunteers looking only slightly less bedraggled than the riders!
Your riders will be welcome to enter the Leeds Mercury CC Road Race next year. The organiser, Kevin Stuart will be prioritising riders from clubs who promote races. He’s hoping for an April slot in the calendar. Your event is one of his favourites and we’d like to reciprocate for your riders.
One of my clubmates mislaid my umbrella at the race car park HQ. It’s a black gents type with a wooden handle and a “quick release” button which, when pressed, springs the brolly into the open position. I might not normally be too bothered but it was one of the first things my wife bought for me when we first got together over 20 years ago. I’ll be in big trouble if it’s lost! Any info appreciated.
Thanks again, and any news of the missing brolly will be welcome.

If you click on this link you’ll see a report on today’s race
Many thanks to all of you who turned out in such nasty weather – and hats off to all our cyclists, especially Dave McKay and Andy Newby for making it into the first ten!!

You are all stars!! (if wet ones)
There can’t be many clubs with the depth and breadth of support that was demonstrated today.
Many thanks – it makes organising a race so much easier when the workload is shared!
