Great ride Dave, especially under the circumstances… tho I’m sure there must be a UCI rule about the use of a gaffer tape / running shoes combo 😆
As for my ride…to sum up in one word…tired. One of those days were you feel like you don’t get going. A sore back, but the legs were the main problem.Chris GParticipant18 June 2013 at 19:01Post count: 57Chris GParticipant9 June 2013 at 16:31Post count: 57
Yet another great ride by Dave. He came past me at 25 miles, on probably the quickest section of the course. I was doing just over 30mph and he cruised past, super smooth on his 100″ fixed 😮
10 mile splits – 10 miles 25:12 (23.8 mph), 20 miles 25:58 (23 mph), 30 miles 24:57 (24 mph), 40 miles (bad patch) 27:02 (22.2 mph), 50 miles 24:34 time (24.4 mph) – 2.08.33
So a pleased with a fairly even ride, a few hold ups at junctions & roundabouts, but nothing major. Just need to have a word with the ‘chimp’ and believe I can go quicker without blowing up!

Excellent ride, especially on the back of the half marathon, how were the legs?
Re reports, for me the more detail the better 😈 , maybe we should have a club ‘forum race report writing’ as an alt trophy at the dinner, as an incentive? tho Dave would probably win that awswell!! 😆

In football parlance it was ‘a game of two halves’ …….. gyroscopic, wheel wobblingingly fast going out… can’t find a suitable gear (unless you are Dave & Jack 😮 )… oh *#?! it, down to the small ring, return!
as a comparison to Dave..5 mile splits – 5 miles 11.01 (27.2 mph), 10 miles 09.21 (32.4 mph), 15 miles 11.20 (26.5 mph), 20 miles 13.54 (21.6 mph), 25 miles (16.25mph) (small ring 😆 ) (18.2 mph). time 1.02.41
Chapeau to Dave & Jack on fixed in those conditions, to Caroline having had flu for the week before (overload & adaptation ❓ ) …. and Alastair… the training works 😉Chris GParticipant16 May 2013 at 20:43Post count: 57
I was very evenly paced ride. 2nd time up the A537 was tough, but felt like I was going ok when I punctured.
The aim was for a sub 2:10. I’ve only ridden 2 or 3 50’s in the past (20 odd years ago). I like the idea of the longer distances, but for me it’s getting over the mental side of 5 x 10’s, 2 x 25’s etc and the 3 x Twemlow Lane, on that course!
Probably do a couple more on this year on the J4/16, and maybe on a different course if I can find one.
Have you ridden one?

Going back in time………. a long time ago in a galaxy far away.. when I was 19/20. I did a short 23 on 52×16 fixed, on the old Northwich bypass 10 course (quicker than our 10 course, and before the introduction of the Roberts Bakery lights (Dave will remember) but no tri bars or helmet 😮 ) but it was mainly due to riding Kirkby and Newcastle track meetings every week.
James’s ride on Wednesday was a perfect example of a TT by a track rider, super smooth as he came past me, a joy to behold!
Dave may disagree, but if yr thinking of TT’ing on fixed then ride the track leagues and do a winter on fixed.
Dave, over to you…. 😉Chris GParticipant12 May 2013 at 17:05Post count: 57
Great ride Dave and Caroline on tough, windy day.
Thanks for the kind words, tho I can’t recall saying ‘I was feeling good’ 😆 Trying to pace myself and cope with the mental side of 3 laps of a pot hole riddled course more like, and the only one I managed to hit caused the puncture 👿
As a comparison, my splits where 10 miles 26:03 (23.1 mph), 25 miles 1:05:29 (22.9 mph), 35 miles 1:32:10 (22.8 mph),punctured at 38 miles, so was possibly looking at a 2:11 or 2:12. Average heart rate was 140bpm (normally 150-155), so maybe a bit too steady?
