Below are the results of the track championships that took place at Manchester Velodrome on Thursday evening. The evening was very poorly supported with only 12 riders, Paul West coaching and Andrew Risk and Titch helping. Despite this the racing was excellent and everybody enjoyed themselves as usual.
We rode an omnium consisting of a flying 200m TT, a 2000m pursuit and an “A” & “B” scratch race to close the competition. James won all 3 races, but does not qualify for the champs being a second claim member of the club. However his hard work all Winter on the track is definately paying off and he significantly improved on his rides at last years champs.
Giles Bett was the club champion with 4 points for 2 wins and one second place in the scratch race and he rode consistently well all evening, showing his usual great turn of speed. Giles really should try his hand at track league as he has that natural top end speed you need on the velodrome. Dave Fearon was second at 5 points with two seconds and a first in the scratch race. He also took 2st veteran despite looking much younger than he is! Eleanor was fastest lady and gave some of the lads some stick in the scratch race, beating a few to the line. Connor got fastest youth and unfortunately we had no Juniors so the Junior prize was eaten by the organizer on the way home!
An exciting end to the track season but please, please, please try to support the track nights next Winter as we have made big losses again this year due to poor attendance in the last two events. We could share the evening with another club next year to prevent running at a loss, but I really want to avoid this as the track will be too busy if we are not careful and then our riders will get less track time.

Finally a big thank you to Paul West who has provded an interesting and varied series of training sessions all Winter. Sorry but when the report posts it closes all the gaps between the times and positions and they no longer line up with the column headings. I’ll see if our IT guru Adrian can post the spreadsheet so you can see the results more clearly.

I just want to say thanks to Dave and Caroline not just for the Track champs but for all the events throughout the winter. I’d also like to say thanks to Paul West, once again I’ve learnt loads & loved the time on the track.EleanorParticipant12 March 2012 at 22:43Post count: 252
Thanks from me, too, the sessions have been great this year with loads of track time and varied exercises. As for the track champs, next year hopefully a few more will come along..if they see my times they will note you don’t have to be fast to enter!
