That’s me race face that is, and I’ve got no pins in me number.

A great turn out for the first club 10 of the Year on Wednesday with 22 riders.  Conditions were good with little wind and dry conditions following a short shower 1 hour before the start.

A new season and some new names in the 10’s and some of these with obvious form.  Winner on the night with a cracking 21:49 was Dave Walker which is an amazing ride on our humble lumpy course.  Also new to the 10’s was Sam Taylor who took second place with another great ride of 23:06.  Incredibly the third slot was also filled by a WVCC club 10 novice Dave Curran.  He too went under the 25MPH barrier with a 23:44.  Fastest Lady was Lynsey Astles who is also showing good form in the early season open events and confirmed this form tonight with a 27:52.  Congratulations to the rest of the field for turning up and blowing out the Winter cobwebs.  It’s good (or maybe not so good!), to get a benchmark for your condition.  Whether that benchmark is good or bad it is something to aim at and this is the point of the season long Guardian Cup handicap competition.

For club members your time tonight will form your handicap for the 1st round which will be held next week.  However if you rode last year then your best time last year in these 10’s will be used so that gives you the incentive to get back to where you were and hopefully improve further.  Best 5 results for each rider are counted overall and each round you will gain points based on your position against handicap.  So 1st on handicap gets 25 points, 2nd 24, etc and the maximum points anyone can gain all season is 125.  For faster riders who stand little chance on handicap there is the scratch competition with a similar points system adopted based on actual time. Therefore fastest on the night gets 25 points.

Good luck to everyone and apologies if my weekly updates are sometimes a little late but it does take quite some time to keep on top of these results all season long with work commitments etc.

Thanks

Dave Fearon – TT Secretary
