WVCC Club 10s – Guardian Cup Round 9 – 3rd August 2016

A massively windy, gusty night only brought 11 entrants to this evening’s 10, and with time running out in the Guardian Cup series, there was a feeling of ‘nothing to lose, everything to gain’ with the determined faces at the start line.

Some riders will have benefited from the tail wind on parts of the A50, and some good times were recorded.

For the results of the night, Chris Gilbertson romped homewith a great time of 24:39, with Nick Butterworth 2nd – 25:19, and a determined 3rd from Steve Marlow with 26:03. Also coming in with a highly respectable 29:50 in her first time trial, our newest member Alison, made a sterling effort, following her first club run last Sunday on our beginner’s ride. A benchmark now set to beat!

So, where does this put the Guardian Cup points for the week? Well Emily, Chris Gilbertson, and Dave Wilkinson scored highly on the evening to re-enforce their  overall scores.

So, what a difference a week makes, and look at how close this competition is! Steve Marlow has rocketed up to 2nd, with Nick,  Emily and Rich all in reaching distance of this year’s competition trophy, with 12 points separating these top 5 contenders in the competition. The Guardian Cup 2016 will go right to the wire in the last round of the series on Wednesday 10th August 2016 – don’t miss it!!!
