Reading Time: < 1 minute

A welcome birthday boy return for Richard Heywood: the title of this blog is his idea as he reckoned the repartee today was so good (obscure I know but that’s Richard for you!).

Gary’s under 7s joke: a man goes into a bar with a newt on his shoulder, and asks for a pint for himself and half a pint for his friend Tiny. The barman asks why his friend is called Tiny and the man says “because he’s my newt”.

About 12 riders today, we struggled out from Hatchmere out to Gawsworth in a strong headwind, with Jed doing a remarkable job at the front – and various other people taking turns trying to stay with him whilst he engaged them in conversation and they grunted their replies. Lunch at Gawsworth Garden Centre (food 6/10, loos 5/10), erudite conversation on my table about wind v. water v. coal v. nuclear power (yes come on a WVCC ride for an education) and then home, for which the primary power was wind, of the tailwind variety: we made it back in about 20 minutes, mostly at >25 mph (I’m never knowingly undersold in the exaggeration department). A good ride out and the rain just about stayed away.
Eleanor.
