Reading Time: < 1 minute

Manchester and NW hosted the VTTA [Veterans Time Trial Association] National Championship 10 mile TT , on the J2/1, Months Heath to Knutsford Road.  It was interesting that I could hear many woeful complaints after riders had finished, about the ‘sporting nature of the course’ and the’ very rough road surface’..  people came from all over the country to ride this event… It’s our local drag strip I said.. [I don’t think the guys I was speaking to were very impressed.. southern softies!]

The race is decided on the +/- on a standard time which is set according to the age of the rider.

Weaver Valley were represented by 3 riders Jim Williams, off 4th rider,  stopped the clock at 25:14 with a +on standard of 2:18s, next was Alan Shuttleworth who steered his trike around in 30:09 with a +on standard on 40s  and finally , Chris Gilbertson finished with a 24:28 for a beating of his standard by 2:22, edging Williams by just 4 seconds.  It was a grand day out, on a day when we had a hint of the summer sunshine to come..

When I left Terry Icke was leading on standard at + 6:09 with an actual time of 23:30, not bad for a 73 year old!

Fastest when I left was Chris Massey who stopped the clock at 21:38 . I am pretty sure that these times will stand as the overall honours.
