A treat for me: I took today off work, which meant a ride in the sunshine with my wrinkly friends. I’ve only managed this rarely, recently – but during my six months of unemployment four years ago, these rides provided weekly companionship, support, a good belly laugh or two (thanks Garry), distraction therapy and some fabulous adventures: and I got fitter than I’ve ever been. So, I’m a fan.
Today matched my expectations: a great route there and back, a brisk but steady pace, good quality chat (probably a tad more conversation about pension plans, injuries and prostates than on the average Sunday run) and a wonderfully convivial day out. Fellow protagonists were: Jed, Martin W, Chris Latter, Cliff, Pete W, pirate Richard, John Chrystal, Vince, Keith, Alan Silver (another one taking a day off midweek), Garry B, and new boys Stu and Geoff (back from a broken leg). Poor Ian suffered a terminal mechanical 10 miles from the cafe and had to get rescued – hope you got back OK Ian.
